“Medioevo sul Lago d’Orta”: the medieval village of Orta San Giulio will host a special event on the 6th, 7th and 8th of July

Three days dedicated to the past, especially to the Middle Ages in the unique frame of Orta San Giulio. The past will live again all along the streets, in the main square, across the village.

Orta san Giulio is going to become a medieval campsite where hundreds of knights, soldiers, peeresses, craftsmen and jesters will represent the Middle Ages with live perfomances, music and duels.

It will be certainly a real blast from the past for everybody, don’t miss it!

And moreover, it will be given to the spectators the chance to taste old recipes and medieval food.

Everybody is welcomed, with a partcular attention to families and children; a lot of activities will be organized and proposed during these days.

 

Thursday, the 5th of July 2012 (Orta – Chiesa Santa Maria Assunta)
9.00 pm Medieval music concert with the group Orientis Partibus “Amor mi fa cantar” – Medieval music and instruments play the sacred and profane love

Friday the 6th of July 2012 (Orta – P.zza Motta, the main square)
6 pm Grand opening of the exhibition “Lake Orta Towers and castles”
9 pm Lecture “Lake Orta: Emperors, kings and queens, monks and bishops, towers and castles” given by professor, writer and medieval historian

Saturday the 7th of July 2012 (City Centre)
3 pm Opening of the medieval village, street markets and a “for children only” area
3.30 pm Medieval parade across the city centre and drums exhibition
From 3 pm to 12pm Musicians, jesters and soldiers exhibition
6 pm Hawkes perfomance
8 pm Medieval dinner “Dinner with Ottone il Grande”
11 pm Knights duel with burning swords

Sunday the 8th july 2012 (City Centre)
From 10 am to 8 pm Medieval village
From 10 am to 8 pm Musicians, jesters and soldiers exhibition
3.30 pm Medieval parade across the city centre and drums exhibition
4 pm Ceremony of the ordinance of the Bishop of Novara Oldeberto Tornieli (21st may 1213 – 15th march 1235) in 1219
5.30 pm knights joust
9 pm Medieval party
